Improved litter management

The third area of activities in the dollyropefree project is on improvements in the way that dolly rope is handled on board fishing vessels. As one of the major reasons for dollyrope to end up in the sea is poor waste management practices, the focus in this approach is to work on solutions on board fishing vessels in terms of addressing the underlying behaviour and processes.

By engaging with fishing vessel crews and raising awareness regarding litter management on board (including dolly rope) and engage with the relevant stakeholders to develop practical solutions improve litter collection at fishing harbours.

Currently, as part of the ‘Green Deal Fisheries for a Clean Sea’ in The Netherlands, stakeholders related to fisheries litter have committed themselves to improve waste management practices on board fishing vessels and fishing harbours
